Preparing for Surgery

One of the best ways to have a great outcome from surgery is to be well-prepared. Your efforts before surgery can have a positive impact on your recovery after. Ask questions, understand treatment, follow instructions, and you will be on the road to a quicker recovery.

Scheduling the Surgery

Depending on the nature of the surgery, it may be scheduled within days or weeks after it
has been determined to be the appropriate treatment option. The surgery time may not
be determined until the business day before the scheduled surgery. The procedure
will be performed in a hospital or surgery center where your surgeon has staff privileges

(HonorHealth Deer Valley and Metro Surgery Center).

 

Preoperative Testing

Your surgeon may require that you obtain medical clearance prior to your
surgery. Preoperative testing may include blood tests, urinalysis, chest x-ray, and
electrocardiogram. Any testing your surgeon has ordered for you MUST be completed at
least five days prior to your surgery, otherwise your surgery may be delayed or cancelled.

 

Preoperative Instructions

Before most surgeries, the patient is advised not to eat or drink anything after midnight
the evening before the surgery. This includes no tobacco use and no gum chewing. The
patient should not drink any alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours before surgery.

Bring to the Hospital

The facility will contact you before your surgery to discuss any payment due. Our

office will also contact you prior to your surgery to collect surgeons fees. You must

pay your fees at least five days prior to your scheduled procedure. You will
need to bring your Photo ID, Insurance Card, any advanced directives, and any other
items requested by the facility. Be sure to arrange transportation home, since the effects
of anesthesia and other medications given before surgery make it unsafe to drive.

 

Form Completion FMLA/Short Term Disability

We require 7 to 10 business days to complete your form(s). We require a minimum
prepaid $20.00 fee for the completion of form(s). This fee must be paid prior to the

completion of the form(s). The fee will not be refunded if the forms are not picked up.
